Parallels

Here is the issue we are having at the school. We currently have 10 new iMacs wih Yosemite installed. We wish to run windows through Parallels. The issue we are having is after installing Windows 7 through Parallels, we log off the local admin account and log on an AD account to find that when we click on Parallels it is asking for the user to find a VM image or create one. What we want is for when a teacher logs on to the mac, clicks on Parallels, to hit run and for windows to load. Is this possible?

It is but I have had to do two things in the past. The first is to make sure the virtual machine file is in an area accessible by all users. this is normally /Users/Shared. The second is more for usability, but I put an icon for the virtual machine file in the dock for any new users. This will allow them to click its icon and have it fire up the VM.

 

On a side note, you will need to make sure the options are set correctly when they log out. I've had issues in the past where the VM gets suspended when they log out. When another user launches the VM, it resumes the previous persons settings, giving them access to the other persons files etc.
