Im assuming htis is the right place to put this.

Looking for some views on this.

I am in possession of 2 servers both identical specs. I am going to visualise them got licencing for 2 copies of server 2012 which entitles me to 2 virtual servers per box.

At the moment we have 1 Server that does everything DHCP/DNS/AD and File storage. And a local pc that we run SIM's on.

Plan is to take Sims off the pc and put it on a server.

So would you you keep one box for education and one box for admin/sims or how would you do it.

scenario 1

BOX 1

vm1 = Sims

vm2 = SCCM or WDP/WUD

BOX 2

vm1 = education AD/DHCP/DNS Fileserver

vm2 = clone of VM1

Scenario 2

vm1 = sims

vm2 = copy of sims

BOX 2

vm1 = AD/DHCP/DNS Filesever all for STAFF

vm2 = Split AD etc for STUDENTS

or something like

Scenario 3

Box 1

vm 1 = AD/DHCP/DNS

vm2 Sims

Box 2

vm1 = AD/DHCP/DNS

vm2 = something else

scenario 1 looks good for me,

depending on how you would

What about backup?

also what about box2 vm2 , would you have this backup done by hyper v replication ? or snapshots ? or would you a cluster sims SQL server?

If he puts the curric VM on the other BOX, that'll just be for storage purposes as most admin networks are VLAN'd off? That's how it is on my networks, dedicated admin ports on the cisco router on a different range.
