edutech4schools Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Just setting up some LearnPads at a primary school and wondered how everyone else arranges the desktop. Do you, Have one desktop/lesson for KS1 and one for Ks2 Have one desktop/lesson with each of the years as a category, so they have a Reception folder and a Year 1 folder etc Separate desktops/lessons for each of the year groups. Or do you have some alternative way of setting them up? Edited January 7, 2015 by edutech4schools
pooley Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Horses for courses. Our teachers set up their own lesson/profiles depending on current lesson/topic/ability of pupil etc. For example, our reception class has QR keys printed and stuck to different topic tables, i.e. Maths, Literacy, Creative etc. Within each of those "Lessons" (profiles) there may only be one category and one resource to begin with, but as the children become more adept at that resource (i.e. maths game = easy) our teachers then add a second resource to further enhance the learning outcome. If your teachers aren't eager to setup their own lesson profiles then the whole idea behind Learnpad is lost on them, they could do with some training tbh. I create the odd lesson for the teachers if it's a teacher who is a real numpty or hasn't got the time but 90% of them do it themselves. I run a termly "Learnpad" training session during a staff meeting to give refreshers.
edutech4schools Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Thanks for the info. I will chuck something together just to get them started. One other question, When adding teaching staff to class connect what roles do you assign? viewer, editor, Owner or Admin. I assume Owner for general staff but wanted to check.
jmak Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 We're still fairly early on in our deployment, so this is still based on my thoughts rather than tried and tested: I have created a base lesson for each key-stage with suitable activities for the kids to just pick up a device and use. They can then be left out for "start the day" and "free choice" type activities. I have also set up a lesson for literacy, one for numeracy and one for research (i.e. access to a search engine) - the base lessons don't have access to a browser. I'm working with the teachers this term to set up a topic based lesson, with the expectation(!) that next term teacher will set their own up. Question in return: We have a group set in each classroom and I have created locations in the console so that teachers can click on their class and push out lessons to the relevant devices. I'm concerned that they might select all devices and push out their lesson to everyone in the school. Does anyone use "sub-domains" in class connect? And if so, has it been successful? One other question, When adding teaching staff to class connect what roles do you assign? viewer, editor, Owner or Admin. I assume Owner for general staff but wanted to check. I assigned teaching staff as Owners.
edutech4schools Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Does anyone use "sub-domains" in class connect? And if so, has it been successful? Not at any of my Primary schools, sorry 1
pooley Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 All teachers are editors, this allows them to create and edit lessons, but not allow them to purchase anything from the store. Sorry don't use sub-domains, I group the learnpads by colour and have a coloured label on the learnpad case to identify what group of "30" the teach has, this makes class connect management much simpler. 1
