Exchange 2010 - Internal/External Domain

Hello,

 

The current situation is that our Exchange points to our external domain (mail.school.com) which works fine, but internal this does not work and anyone can only access the mail server with the server's internal IP address.

Is there a way to change this to sort out so the external domain works both external and internal?

You could look at split dns, by adding a stub domain for the school.com, with a host record for mail (and any other hosts which are accessed internally but are *.school.com).

Split DNS is definitely the correct solution.

We use a dns entry to redirect ours, don't know if it classes as split.

Worth bearing in mind, as we hit the issue recently, that internal domains will not be supported for certificates, so your exchange server may need reconfiguring if you use an internal domain name for it i.e. one that doesn't match your email domain.
