Gongalong Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Hi folks, I'm about 4-5 hours in (taking a break while the servers are maintained). Trading is proving to be a slow way to make money, and a friend suggested cartography. In a way it's easier, and the money's better than trading it seems. Is this a good way to make money early on?
Gongalong Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 Earned about 70k for 6 or so hours play. Gotta get me that Cobra, but a ways off yet. Cartography does have the advantage of picking up missions along the way.
Sunnyknight Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 It's good, but i would say to get an eagle or run towards a viper. Then go to 'nav beacons' or 'resource extraction sites' or just general 'unidentified sources' to kill WANTED personnel. Be sure to get a kill warrant scanner. P.s. It's a quicker way to earn money when you start out (x1 beam laser and then x2 multicannon normal / gimballed however you wish (gimballed auto tracks the target). Always head for a anarchy system if you do this, it'll be easier to find WANTED NPC / players. 1
Gongalong Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Do you get the bounties straight away, and how much do they tend to be?
GREED Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 You have to claim them at a local port. Can be anything I have 40k one yesterday. Then again I had a 10k bounty on ME! One thing I am confused on is what the kill warrant scanner does I didn't have that and was still getting the bounties, so it is needed?? 1
pcstru Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) One thing I am confused on is what the kill warrant scanner does I didn't have that and was still getting the bounties, so it is needed?? A normal scanner will show whether they are wanted within the current system. The KWS shows all bounties available everywhere and once you scan the target, you will pick those up too. [ETA - you will need to travel to the faction system and collect in a station] Edited December 29, 2014 by pcstru 2
Gongalong Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 So I upgraded my Sidewinder with new power plant etc., beam lasers, point defence, and kill warrant scanner. Presumably I just keep looking at the Nav beacons etc. as above? I don't seem to be finding anyone but clean ships. I took on a pirate mission, and very narrowly failed to beat him (lost me ship *sob* 15k insurance spend).
Sunnyknight Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Nooooooooooooo. Don't upgrade a sidewinder. Just work up to an eagle then begin upgrading. Sidewinders get piddled on all day long. Eagles are still one of the most dangerous ships about, primarily because of their maneuverability. 1

When you use the KWS, check the target in the comms panel and it will list any bounties in other systems. Be aware that if you shoot at a "clean" (with bounties listed for other systems), you will likely become wanted in the current system (other than if the current system is anarchy (I think!)). Gongalong Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Shucks, well a lot more exploring then to afford an Eagle...
