Context Menu

Hi All,

 

Within school we currently have the right click option for students disabled but have been looking into the possibility of allowing this then changing the context menu via registry changes to only allow copy, paste and open with.

 

Has anyone previously done this?

Honestly never seen the point of restricting it. Things are locked down so the options you don't want aren't available, and things like create shortcut can be done without right click anyway.

Aye, as I mean anything like Display/Resolution/Personalisation etc can all be restricted anyway. Anything like shortcuts can be created without right-clicking. So I'm never sure what people are disabling right-click for really What is the reason you're considering disabling it?

It was disabled when I moved into my current post within school and only just got the chance to look into it really had a look into the registry changes but it all looks a bit messy to be honest.

 

I'll have to have a proper play with a test machine with right click enabled for students and see what they can do

Also it's been requested so that lower end students can right click copy/paste documents without having to use shortcuts

Main things to check I guess is lock downs on display/personalisation etc, and then the advanced rightclick menu like open command prompt here etc. If that's all locked down don't see any downside of the menu, unless I'm missing something obvious

Same here, can't understand why people block this.

Ditto! All of the items that lead to the Control Panel or Intel/AMD/NVidia applications are restricted via GPOs or AppLocker anyway. Students can't do anything they shouldn't be able to do even when right-click is enabled.
