Badzeye Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Hi Guys, I have been asked by a friend if it is possible to convert a physical XP machine to a VM and run it in a VM on a new computer. The reason for this is there are some programs that only run on XP he requires. I was just wondering if any of you know if this is feasible. A bit of googling suggests it could be done.
sted Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 it can be done disk2vhd will sometimes work it just depends on the hardware (I suspect virtualbox / VMware have their own convertors)
themightymrp Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 VMware VCentre Converter will do it if you are using VMware Player/Workstation. But Disk2VHD is a good one
FN-GM Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 FYI If you have an OEM licence on the old machine you will need to purchase a new Windows XP licence (if you can still get them).
Gatt Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 FYI If you have an OEM licence on the old machine you will need to purchase a new Windows XP licence (if you can still get them). I doubt you will now, you may even struggle getting a Windows 7 licence to get Windows XP mode...
FN-GM Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I doubt you will now, you may even struggle getting a Windows 7 licence to get Windows XP mode... The software is still licenced, so I can't see why it would be free. Unless I have missed something?
