TCP and DNS Address for windows 8 update 8.1

Need some advice folks!

 

Got a few Surface tablets in school that are running windows 8!

ive ran all the windows updates apart from windows update 8.1 from the app store.

 

when i go to run this update it fails,

long story short our authority have web filtering in place and we think that either that or the firewall is blocking access to this update.

 

we need to find out the ip address / dns name of the address that this update app program is trying to contact out on.

 

ive downloaded sysinternals "TCPView" program and tried to run the "Tcpvcon" command line to export to a csv file but no luck

 

can anyone else give me any advice to any other program that will record and log to a file what address a program will try and contact out on.

Use Fiddler, it has a mode for capturing Windows 8 Apps traffic.

As you've pointed out, you need to download/install the Windows 8.1 Update from the Apps store. If you're behind a proxy server, you need to configure/enable proxy settings in desktop mode, then run following command, within a Command Prompt (run as admin):

 

netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie

 

Windows 8 will now download/install 8.1 as normal, but I'll warn you, it takes absolutely forever. Come back to it in January!

ive tried that and doesnt seem to work

 

it must be an address thats blocked within the bloxx system preventing this from updating.

Why not just re image with an up-to-date image?

As far as I'm aware it just picks/downloads the update from Windows/Microsoft Update.

 

Try tethering your phone to the device and see if it lets you get as far as to download the file. If it does then you're right Bloxx could be the issue.
