kidpressingbuttons Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We currently have a large touch screen display in our library which is really being used a glorified space excluder, and I would like to set up to be moved between classes when needed and have some interesting and fun activities. it runs Windows 7 and is networked. We cater for children from reception till year 6 so all ideas welcome
smithson83 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) We have a few mobile TouchScreen PC's, built in wireless and a 5m mains cable, they're great, all you need is a plus socket and you have a classroom. There are loads of mounts and trolleys out there, but essentially its a wall mount on wheels We have something similar to this with a 55" attached Edited December 11, 2014 by smithson83
HTCPCP Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We had a trial iBoardTouch which had a great stand which you could wheel around, and in one school I have managed to arrange a 3 week + christmas trial of a promethian touch TV which is moveble. Depending on make, some offer their own base for it which if you can afford, I would suggest - less need for extra drilling or messing around with, and you know it will just work! Always make use of the wireless and hang a box for the keyboard and mouse on the case to stop them wondering off (especially if they are wireless too...) Apart from that, all you need is a long power cable, or a power cable plugged into an extension/cable reel. We have used a 5m lead when it was on trial, which was ideal in all but 1 room.
Alis_Klar Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) We have a iiyama 55" touchscreen with a Lenovo Tiny PC mounted to the back. Wifi means that there is only a power lead to plug in. It is used in Nursery for EducationCity mainly. It has windows 8 on it but the teachers don't use it they go straight to the desktop. The windows 8 login and onscreen keyboard is loads better than Windows 7 and that IS used and really useful. Edited December 18, 2014 by Alis_Klar
Townsend Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Some nice mobile options about - and the ones that drop to a table top are going to be popular - especially as the10 touch screens are coming through now. I like the loxit Hi-Lo unit
kidpressingbuttons Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 We are probably going to recycle ours as the touch screens are dead in places and the resolution isn't great!
Alis_Klar Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 We are probably going to recycle ours as the touch screens are dead in places and the resolution isn't great! How old are they? What resolution are they? We run our large screens at lower than native res as it makes the text too small to see even with the text size setting on 150%. At the the back of the room you are not going to appreciate retina resolutions anyway.
Alis_Klar Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Would recommend the Logitech K400 wireless keyboard and touchpad combo. 10m range and 1yr battery life. Has tiny usb receiver dongle that does not pertrude more than 5mm out of the usb port.
kidpressingbuttons Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 About 4 years, so very early stage! We have 60 inch touch screens in most rooms which perform much better.
