Slim Browser

Hi everyone just wondered if anybody has ever ran into this little gem of a software called Slim Browser, I have discovered some students running it from their documents folder, and as a nice default it disables the proxy so they don't get filtered.

Set it up so that direct connections are not allowed? no proxy then means no internet.

We block executables so that students can't run them from their home folders or the USB memory sticks.

we block executables too, they are still managing to run the bloody thing though.

How do you block them? App loccker or File execution policy?

just done a bit of investigation, there is no executable, you download a zip file, that you unzip to your documents folder, and browser runs from there. Little devils, just ran a find/remove script on the folder it extracts too. Not fixed but will give me a chance to play in the morning. There should be some way of only allowing Chrome or IE traffic to pass through a Smoothwall, instead of all the weird and wonderfully stuff out there.

 

We block .exe`s via group policy by the way.
