Chromebooks Set up

Can someone help a complete Google Noob ??

 

I have -

 

A Google domain set up with all school accounts

Single sign on service via RM Unify

A pile of Chromebooks

A set of Chromebook Management Licences have been purchased

 

I literally have very little more knowledge than this, what the heck do I do now ?

 

I've tried logging into a Chromebook with my user and it rejects the login.

I've tried enrolling the device via ctrl-alt-e and it similarly rejects the login.

 

Anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

Anyone got any good guides or pointers on setting up and managing Chromebooks and a Google Apps domain ?

When I looked at this about a year ago I was told by Google that Chromebook log ins were not compatible with SSO as they are designed to be used offline but that there was a feature request open for this so this may be the issue or things may have moved on since then.

 

I also remember some info I was given from RM about steps to configure Unify for Google Apps provisioning but I can't find that right now.

 

First thing I would check is whether you can sign into Google apps via the browser on a Windows machine using one of your school accounts...

can you login to google apps admin console?

If so is device management listed and is chrome listed there when you click on it?

@spadam - thanks, yes I've got the SSO side sussed I think. You have to set an app password in RM Unify, which looks like it will be a PITA to manage. The alternative is to unfederate GA which will be a pain for us, because we'll have to manually provision accounts etc and there will be different passwords.

@maark - Yes and no. I presume this means we don't have our licences yet ?

I would check with where you get your licences from - there should be something there when you have licences.

You can then set device and network settings and see devices when they have enrolled.
