Hello all,

I am upgrading to SOLUS 3 and need a bit of help to explain some of the instructions given to me. I may have a few questions but let us start with the following:

"Share G:\SOLUS3\UpdateRepository as updaterepository$."

Could someone elaborate on this for me? Perhaps point me to some helpful resources?

I do understand that the updaterepository$ part means a hidden share but should I limit the simultaneous users? And what permissions need setting?

I am very new to SIMS etc and don't want to mess it up. Thanks in advance.

This is saying that you need to share the folder G:\SOLUS3\UpdateRepository with the share name UpdateRepository$. Doing so shouldn't interfere with SIMS in any way.

As always, help given is used entirely at your own risk.

Thanks fairm010. I have the folder share set, I have given SYSTEM and Domain Admins full control, Everyone has read only.

Do I need to limit the simultaneous user?

Also the instructions say "Ensure offline files is switched off on the share". I did a quick search and am thinking that I have to open the Caching option from the Advanced Sharing and select "No files or programs from the shared folder are available offline"?

I have a sneaky suspicion your using @Ghostgame instructions. Might be worth giving him a call.

FYI: The updaterepository is used to deploy the connection files (sims.ini, connect.ini, fmsconnect.ini), you need the S3 agents to be able access to download it - stupidly it goes to a windows share rather then transmitting it over the tcp port and the s3 agent runs as the local system account. The switch off offline files is to stop your computers caching the share - cause it really doesn't need to waste the disc space.

Hi matt40k, the instructions are from Schools Choice. Do you know if installing SOLUS 3 will stop SOLUS 2 from working?

Cheers, TomHD
