forkies Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hi All, Looking for some advice, my admissions officer came across a fake student that someone had (probably by accident) entered into sims. Now my problem is finding out who did it, I have an admission date from 2 days ago which is likely when this fake student was put on and as it was a name begining with A it was at the top of the student list so was quite easy to spot (especially when the name was all in caps). I have had a quick look through sims and cannot find any details logs, we run impero but that doesn't pick this type of thing up. Is there anywhere I can look to see who created this student? The student has now been deleted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom
GREED Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I'm not aware any logging goes on for who created a record. If the record has now been deleted it is even more difficult!
featured_spectre Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 If you have access to the raw database, it will show you on there who made the entry.

russdev Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Can you look at at the windows captions lists in Impero and see if can see anything in there? Russ
forkies Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 Can you look at at the windows captions lists in Impero and see if can see anything in there? As Sims does not change the windows caption when creating a new student or even bring up a new window there is nothing in Impero captions unfortunately. Wish Impero could log sims altogether as it is so widely used in education and sims doesn't really provide a log at all apart from who logged in and from what machine.
GREED Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I understand SIMS 8 is planning to have a much more comprehensive logging and auditing feature set. Obviously doesn't help you here but thought it worth a mention!
GREED Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Sorry, I'm not allowed to call it SIMS 8 *gets slap from @David_Grashoff
vikpaw Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Sorry, I'm not allowed to call it SIMS 8 *gets slap from @David_Grashoff Is it because they are leap-frogging straight to SIMS 10 (or the Capita only codename SIMS X) ? ===== @forkies - If you've deleted the student, the log, even in SIMS db tables may be gone. If you can open sysman 6, there was very limited auditing in there which often used to crash the system, but if you can limit your search to a particular area / module, to a subset of users and the date then it might help. Possibly even with the data gone as it tracks module access i think. Though to be honest, there shouldn't be that many people with the permission, and it's not a big deal, can't you just ask the staff? 1
forkies Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Thanks all for your help. I have done a review of the sims permissions and removed any old permissions that people no longer require. I have advised the line manager to talk to their staff and check they know the difference between New and Search. The sims system manager 6 logs did crash every time so I didn't waste any more time.
