One Click Backup

Im wanting to backup the Folder My Docs by running a batch file or Schedualer. Now windows schedualer will only run if the computer is turned on and by chance the computer will be turned off when it needs to be ran, so what im wanting to do is to click on an icon on the desktop to backup the my documents folder and stick it on another drive. How easy is it to do this, as i have thought of every process and not one is suitable, bearing in mind there is about 21Gb worth of data and i dont want to pay for anything.

It might not be a one click thing, but JFileSync might be worth looking into. One of the guys here has been playing about with it as a method of doing laptop back ups. I believe it works in a similar fashion to rsync so it should speed up the backup and save bandwidth by only copying changed files.

OK then, ive just had a thought. Is there a way either using VBS or BAT to run NTBACKUP.exe with the right variables, source and destination drives?

Yes Tim, open up ntbackup and check the help HTML doc for the switches.

This is an example that I use for a system state backup on a friday

 

net use z: /d /y
net use z: \\10.0.0.175\share /user:admin Password
ntbackup backup systemstate /J "stjohns02_systemstate_friday" /F "z:\stjohns02\system state\friday\stjohns02_systemstate_friday.bkf"  /V:yes /L:f /M normal
