Digital Signage

Hi, I'm looking for a digital signage system. I used to use Xibo somewhere else, but am now looking at BrightSign, Sedao and OneLan.

 

OneLan seems to be the most common name in digital signage within education, but it does seem expensive. So the two options I'm currently drawn towards are Sedao and BrightSign. I'm not too sure on how easy it is to manage multiple displays via Sedao, although their ImageFlyer (creation software) is really easy to use.

 

BrightSign has been quoted considerably cheaper than OneLan and is networkable. Does anybody have any experience with BrightSign and BrightAuthor? How intuitive is it to use and manage? Is there a web interface for admin staff to update notices etc?

Hello there! I am also looking in to the Digital Signage solutions out there having decided to move away from Xibo. Its a mission to set up and I just cant trust it to work reliably. Plus it doesn't really look nice either!! So I am currently on the verge of buying 5 HD222 Bright Sign boxes for our 5 School TVs. Any feedback on both these particular devices and / or Digital Signage in general most appreciated.

Funny this, because after looking at OneLan, BrightSign, Sedao etc. I've decided to fully commit to Xibo and buy some micro PCs in to run the screens.

 

Xibo has had a number of improvements since I last used it, such as the ability to add a clock and date easily and the ability to preview layouts. As we're on a budget I use Serif DrawPlus Starter Addition to design the layouts / background image and then just put the content over the sections as appropriate in Xibo. One of the content areas is for graphics, which can be made in PowerPoint or Photoshop etc and exported as a JPEG (or WMV, should you wish to include animations...)

 

I did have a look at BrightSign as it was a lot cheaper than OneLan and Sedao, but the software to run it looked clunky and didn't seem intuitive. OneLan looked exactly the same setup as Xibo apart from one or two little nice touches - but not worth the jump from a free solution to around £2k for 2 players and a publisher. Sedao was very nice to design layouts in, but their management system (SWEP and Content Publisher) seemed a bit outdated and hard to setup.

 

Xibo it is! Hopefully the units to run the displays will arrive here soon...

Sounds great! Let us know how you get on with Xibo! The PCs we use to run each TV are so old that they are starting to fall over...so we would also have to buy in some new micro PCs or the like to replace them. Also we are a small crew of 2 here so cant really afford much time setting up and tinkering etc. Good luck again!
