jmak Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Hi All Having a bad day - think I'll save some problems for another day so that I don't flood the forum.... For I'd like to try and get to the bottom of a wireless problem I'm having. I have Ubiquiti Unifi APs (standard) giving site wide wireless coverage. It seems that clients (all Win 7 Pro - some 32 Bit, some 64 Bit and a range of hardware, mostly on the latest driver) regularly switch between the strongest signal and a much weaker one. In the main school building this generally doesn't cause a problem, because the next nearest is quite near and quite strong. However, we have some mobile classrooms a reasonable distance from the main building and the clients switch from the AP in that building with a full signal strength according to Windows (measured as approx -40dBm on Android Wifi Analyzer) to an alternative with at best one bar in Windows (< -90dBm on Wifi Analyzer). Obviously that becomes almost unusable. It's happening every few minutes. I left my phone tracking the signal in the classroom for a couple of hours and the signal from the preferred AP never dropped. The APs are all set to the same SSID and security. Channels spread out across the school to minimise interference. I have set the controller to push clients to an alternative AP once there are 15 clients, but there were only two clients connected when I was testing. I think it's a client side problem - I'll bring in some non-Windows devices tomorrow for further testing. In the Wireless Adapter settings, roaming was set to medium. I have tried changing this to high with no success - I'll try low later. Are there any other settings I should look at? Thanks
