Link: MP For A Week game - UK Parliament

 

Through play, students learn about all aspects of an MP’s role, from debating to meeting constituents, and about the pressures they face.

 

The challenge for players is to survive the week and keep their party, their voters and the media happy!

 

Time required: 35 mins

 

Learning outcomes

 

Students will learn about the work of an MP and key features of democracy in the UK, including:

 

  • Debates and Question Time in the House of Commons
  • The work of Select Committees
  • The role of political parties
  • How the voters are represented by their MP
  • The role of the media
  • Decision-making skills
  • Speech-writing and debating skills
  • The importance of supporting a view with evidence (using the work of Select Committees as an example)
