timbo343 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Im in the process of transferring our services onto our new VMs. Im on the booking system now and i was wondering how i go about moving this over. What parts of the file structure do i need? Do i need to create all the tables again on the new VM before i move the files over? Thanks
webman Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Hello! This should be straightforward. You need to set up the new folder structure and/or virtual host on the web server, move over the whole database and file structure, and (re-)set file permissions. You should be able to take an export of the current database, import it to the new server, and re-create the individual MySQL user account and grant access. If you keep the same username and password it will save you having to change the config files The filesystem permissions that need to be changed are listed at the bottom of the documentation page. Let me know if you need anything else.
timbo343 Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Ok, ive got to a point where i have created the tables in the database and added my old classroombookings folder from www to the new www folder on the new server but i cannot login with any of the existing logins. Will these need to be recreated?
webman Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hi You shouldn't have to re-create them, no. On the login page, does it display your school name & logo? Also, if you look at the users table in the database on the new server, is it complete with all the users you expect to be there?
theo_logical Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Hi Webman, I want to do exactly the same thing as timbo343. But when I go in to mysql and enter show databases; I cannot see the database that I created called crbs. All I see is information_schema and test. I read this on dev.mySQL.com; MySQL implements databases as directories in the data directory, so this statement simply lists directories in that location. However, the output may include names of directories that do not correspond to actual databases. Should we simply back up and restore all databases. Also, what backup method do you recommend? mysql dump? Thanks

timbo343 Posted November 10, 2014 Author Posted November 10, 2014 OK here is what I have done: MySQL> CREATE DATABASE {SameDatabaseNameOnOldServer}; MySQL> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON {DatabaseName}.* Identified by '{Password}'; Copy the old database files from wamp\bin\MySQL\{version}\data\{database} (don't copy the folder, copy the contents) and paste them into the new database location on the new server. Before pasting on the new server, rename the db.opt file to db.opt.old so there isn't a clash when pasting files from the old server. If like me you have downloaded the new site files from crbs extract them into www\{SiteName} Browse to www\{SiteName}\system\application\config (see @webmans documentation for this but its here) - Change config-default.php to config.php - Change database-default.php to database.php - Edit config.php to link to your site - Edit database.php to marry up with the old credentials which are stored on the old server Rename the new webroot folder located on the new server at wamp\www\{SiteName}\ to webroot.old Copy the webroot folder from the old server to the new server. Remove install.php from wamp\www\{SiteName}\system\application\controllers\
