I am looking to try and update moodle over the half term however when I have gone to try and check the plugins I get an error: Unable to fetch available updates data - unexpected cURL error.

Apparently this is related to certificates although when I manually add the certificate file in the location as instructed, and indeed apply the certificate on the server itself the message still shows. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and was able to work around it, or indeed whether this is even necessary (or perhaps even still present on newer versions) in order to actually upgrade Moodle?

When I update plugin at the moment, I just download, unzip and upload to Moodle.

This is going to sound a pretty daft question, but cURL and php-curl are installed on your server?

the php-curl extension is activated and shows as enabled in phpinfo however it seems that it is a known problem related to certificates, but I can't seem to get the recommended workarounds working..
