I've taken to just cutting the top off and using the big bit as a glass. I then need to do something with the remains :

How do you do that? Back in the 1970s, K-Tel used to sell a gadget which cut bottles

(I don't remember it carrying a safety warning) Of course, being a cheap skate, we used to cut bottles the old fashioned way.

Method 1 - tie a piece of string around the bottle where you want it cut. Soak string in kero. Set fire to it. Rub an ice cube along the string. (This method is unreliable.)

Method 2 - fill bottle with vegetable oil, to a level where you want it cut. Plunge in a red hot poker. Rub ice cube along the outside. (This method is almost reliable.)

I use a decent glass cutter with the bottle in a 'custom made jig' (basically some wood & nails). Rotate the bottle and score where I want to cut. Then pour hot water from a kettle onto the cut to heat up the area. Then I trickle cold water onto the score which propagates the cut to the inside and I can pull the two halves apart. Then go round the new edges with a diamond file.

 

I'm getting better at it but it's still not 100% reliable. The rims and joins are '3d printed' (I kind of hate that phrase).

$49 ! They do look as good a cut but my wood and a few nails cost a lot less and my glass cutter I can use for the odd bit of plate work too :
