Mac stuck at apple Logo

Hi, I have a mac running mountain lion and when I went to boot it up it's been stuck on the apple logo with the swirling thing. I tried holding Command + r to reinstall but it just restarted the mac when I clicked continue.

 

Edit: I have Boot Camp installed is there anyway to fix the Mac OS from Windows?

Did you try just holding down cmd and getting the boot menu? You should be able to chose drives, os, or recovery partition

Hi I just tried booting in verbose and single user mode and it just stops at IOThunderboltSwitch<0xfffff802 etc....

I once had a macbook pro (2010) exhibiting behavior like this. Turned out to be the hard drive CABLE... very frustrating!

It's just strange how Windows boots fine on it running from the same hard drive

Bad partition. Hold down Command + Option + R to access Internet Recovery. Format the drive (sorry you'll lose your Bootcamp) and repartition it.

 

Some of the recovery partition files live on the OS X partition which is why it is usually hidden in Disk Utility. A corrupt partition would be the cause of your reboot upon clicking continue.

 

If this does not fix the issue then it would be a hard drive issue, regardless if Boot Camp is working or not. Could be a bad sector not used by Boot Camp.
