DCUK6 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Hi, We have two Netgear Gigabit smart switches joined by fibre. The slow clients are on the same switch and that switch ports the problematic clients are connected at 1000Mbps however they are downloading at 10Mbps (transfer speed of 2mbps). Ive tried one of the machines in my room and connected it straight into the core switch and it downloaded at gigabit speeds. Swapped the wires. Used three different wall sockets, used two different cables in the cabinet. Updated the switch firmware. Still it downloads at 10Mbps. There are some old devices on the switch showing as 10Mbps.
sted Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 have you tried force setting the network card to a set speed i found on some older hp switches on old firmware certain nic took forever to negotiate a speed and caused issues when they did (mainly it took so long no computer policies applied) maybe its something similar where the pc isnt auto negotiating right but if you force it to say 100mb half duplex or even 1000mb half duplex it will work fine also might be worth checking nic drivers/firmware and same on the switch
DCUK6 Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 Will give it a go sted when I can get on. Unfortunately its one of those computers that gets moaned about but you can never get on to fix it because they are always working.
