Sheridan Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm stuck with out WDS (on server 2012) system at the moment. A Toshiba laptop needs a certain lan driver for WDS to work, so I've put that into the boot image using the MDT tools and the Light Touch boot image - but the boot process simply stops and tells me that 'the following networking device does not have a driver installed' I've checked the device ID it gives, and its in the inf file for the driver(s) I injected into the boot image, so I'm a bit stuck now as how to progress! I've had this before using the older version of wds and eventually gave up and manually installed the OS, but I'd like to get around this especially as I want to continue to use MDT. Its a bog standard realtek lan card as well - not exactly obscure!

Sheridan Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 Yeah, I rebuilt the 32 and 64 bit light touch boot images, but get the same error on both.

Sheridan Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 That's what I've done and even restarted wds but still get the driver error. Very odd as the inf file shows an exact match.
snagrat Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Maybe worth building the machine from DVD just to test the network driver works when installed manually. If not then must be wrong driver.
Sheridan Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Hmm, I've added the generic Microsoft PCIe driver for realtek from the MS update site, and its now working! I did a test install of W7 on one of them from CD and thats the driver it chose - no sign of the 'offical' driver anywhere so I added that one to the boot image, and now the OS is copying over.
PotNoodleTech Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Don't forget - it's the Windows PE driver the build process actually requires to connect to the MDT server and progress the build. It only uses the windows 7 drivers once the full windows set up process is running. 95% of the time, the windows 7 drivers work fine in windows PE but occasionally not. I've got a couple of dell models that won't build with the normal Win7 drivers and you have to use the Windows PE driver pack from dell to get the build working.

I did a test install of W7 on one of them from CD and thats the driver it chose - no sign of the 'offical' driver anywhere so I added that one to the boot image, and now the OS is copying over. i had a bunch of dells like that. the supplied driver diddnt work had to add the device id into the inf file as the realtek device it was was correct but the device id being a dell was slightly different took my ages to work that out
cpjitservices Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I have one a the moment I cannot get working... Blue screen with "amd_sata.sys" missing. and goes no further than that with a blue screen. Obviously its sata drivers - works fine from DVD - have injected every driver I can find - even from the manufacturers website and still can't get the machines past that point.
