[ms office - 2010] Protected View - Enabled or Disabled

Curious, after an issue with a online course recently which requires you to download and run Excel files which contain macro's but give an error when you Enable Editing to allow the macros to run but is against the agreement to save the files anywhere (don't ask) - do people leave Protected View enabled or disabled on your network?

Couldn't you of enabled macros in excel in the trust center and the. Download the file on some issues we habe had to disable the protected view because some people wasn't able to print from ie even though some sites were ok and protected view was enabled....go figure but I suppose its down to your judgement and if you feel your computer and user are ok when browsing the internet that they dont download anything thats iffy plus if they cant install anything then you should be ok

We have Macro's enabled for all workstations anyway, mainly because of SIMS and it's requirement for them for reports, plus it was simpler for coursework and things like this site.

 

I've become quite annoyed by it now, probably not helped by the fact I haven't had the best week, however obviously the provider is blaming me and the network for it not working correctly because we have the Recommended security level enabled. It's their blooming macro that has the issue when you enable editing from Protected View, nothing I've done and I'm becoming more stubborn about disabling protected view because they won't admit that there is a problem when "other schools have no issue" despite providing reproducable steps and settings to produce the error, in school and outside of school.

 

If we save the file somewhere then there is no issue, however there are dozen's of files and we're not supposed to save them apparently.
