Help finding a power adapter....

Hi folks,

 

Wasn't sure where to post this, feel free to move it if needed mods.

 

We've had a spate of power adapters blow over the past few months - about 6 in total. They are for our Nuvo in-wall amplifiers but they seem to have fairly uncommon power requirements.

 

We're looking for AC/DC adapter that outputs 24v at 1.5a and we're really struggling to locate any. The type of connector doesn't matter as we'll be stripping that off to wire it into the amp.

 

I have attached a couple of images to show you the requirements we need - we'd like to avoid the multi-voltage selector switch style adapters as we want to minimise the risk of students breaking it!

 

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. School-friendly suppliers preferred

Any idea why? We have Nuvo systems in most of our classrooms, probably similar systems, and we've had other power supplies blow in the past - the ones used by our older SMART overlays in our ground floor classrooms. I don't know if it's something to do with our building's power supply or something to do with the power supplies themselves - 12V, 5A, again not the most common of power supplies, but fortunatly available on eBay for a reasonable price. There's currently one NuVo NV-WA-30 listed on eBay for £50 - I'd have thought the best place to go would be a proper Nuvo reseller, possibly via whatever AV company supplied / installed your equipment in the first place.

RM supplied them before but they no longer sell hardware. No idea why they have blown tbh. A couple were plugged in to cheap and nasty 4 gang extensions, but then again others were directly fused into a spur.

Had a quick look. For a 24v adapter there are 1.25a or a 4a current output available. Am I right in thinking a 4a adapter would be ok as the Nuvo would only draw what it needs up to the stated maximum of 1.5a? Or would a 4a adapter kick out too much current and end up blowing the amp?

4A is fine - the amp will draw what it needs.

 

Voltage - always get exact

Amps - specified is minimum, higher is fine, lower won't work, neither will do any damage

Polarity - this has to be correct! As you'll be wiring this in yourself, just make sure to get the polarity right when you do so

This seems to be the only option - ACPS-PC - ANSMANN - LAPTOP POWER SUPPLY, 90W | CPC

There's this too that appears to fit the bill: 25HK-PH40-A24 - IDEAL POWER - PSU, DESKTOP 24V 1.66A 2-PIN IEC | CPC

 

Doen't look like it comes with a plug though, so you'd need those too (they're Figure 8/C8 type)

Perfect, cheers matey. The originals came with figure of 8 power leads, so that's not a problem.
