divadiow Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 We have a new school that's annexed to an existing school. The staff and network are shared. Both sites have their own SIMS DB- the schools have unique DFE numbers. I have setup access to each database using friendlyname0, friendlyname1 etc in the connect.ini to give users a drop down option to choose which school to login to. Is this the best way? there is a single S:\SIMS folder for both DBs. will their be any conflicts? Will NovaT6 experience any problems? thanks
TheScarfedOne Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 That should be fine...had to do the same thing last year with a secondary and primary attached. The only thing that wont like that is document server. You need two instances (from what I was told by Capita)
divadiow Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) thanks. The DMS seems fine- the database name is different and so is the folder in D:\DOCSTORAGE\SERVER\INSTANCE\ to match the DB. is there potential for conflict when a user sends data back to SIMS from Nova? where is the destination DB specified? vikpaw Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Nova is told where it's sql link path is. I would want a separate Snova folder for each db though, so they don't end up saving files together and potentially overwriting. In practise, you'd probably keep the same folder, but specify the save locations for each to be different, but this may be down to the user being careful. Hopefully you don't have a lot of timetablers!
divadiow Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 thanks. how EXACTLY does Nova know which database to send back to? where is this specified?
