Installing Sims on Windows 8.1

Set up my new machine with 64bit windows 8.1.

 

All drives mapped fine in My PC

 

Ran Simsinst from Sims shared drive.

 

Cannot find S: for shared folders.

 

Bodge it by putting shared folders on local drive but then cannot see Sims drive for connect.ini

 

What have I missed???

 

With all the panic of the first day back I had to revert to my old machine!!!

Ran Simsinst from Sims shared drive. Cannot find S: for shared folders.

If you mapped the drive under your account (or any standard user account for that matter) and then ran Siminst as an administrator, it won't be able to see the mapped drive unless you create the following registry value.

 

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLinkedConnections"=dword:00000001

When installing ours it uses a network share rather then a network drive.

 

So not s:/sims/

 

It's

 

//servername/data/sims/...
