I need a driver for Vista (x64)

My workstation is a Dell Optiplex GX 620. I've just installed Vista (x64) but can't find an audio driver for it on Dells site. Drivershq say that they have one, but only if you download and install (pay) for their download client. Does any here use Vista (x64) on an Optiplex and have the driver to hand?

I avoided the 64 bit version as drivers are still like Hen's teeth....

 

It would be nice to move up to the 64 bit version as I have 4 gig of ram in my new box - have to wait a bit longer...

No, 32bit supports 4Gb (well a bit less, as your video ram gets mapped into the top of the memory address space).

Yup. You lose quite a bit of memory running 4 GB on a 32 Bit system.

I upgraded (well if that's the right word) my pc at home for Vista ultimate x64. The audigy drivers are a joke so I disabled the soundcard and used the onboard sound which is much better.

 

Drivers are a pain in the arse!! - made sure when I got a new lappie it had the 32bit version on instead.

Perhaps your going about this the wrong way round? If all you need is to be able to run VMWare + Vista, Why not use 64bit Linux as the host OS and have 32bit Vista as a guest? You'll get better 64bit performance and full driver support that way.

Because I have to use it as an everyday machine ready for when the other users start to use it and ensure compatability with all of our apps.

The first lesson is to disable indexing on all drives and disable the Windows Search service! The disk thrashing stops almost instatly.
