Search for pirated multimedia content

Hi everyone,

How do you guys search your file servers for possible illegally downloaded content. My main concern is user's who bring in the content on their USB drives and add it to the file server to then pass on to someone else. Our firewalls and filtering block bit torrent etc. so them downloading is not my main concern it is the storing of the material on the server.

 

Currency I search for AVI files is there any others I should look for? or any other suggestions?

It's to hard to distinguish what is a real file and what is a copy, I'd just let it be known that if any staff do bring in illegal copies the responsibility is with them. Problem is iTunes works with MP4 and nearly all companies work with MP3, MKV is also used by Amazon for it's HD content.

 

You can only do what you can do, if you can't prove it's illegally downloaded it falls on $PersonInQuestion shoulders if anything should happen.

We use File Server Resource Manager which is part of windows server here and limit the size of their user directories - years 7-11 have 2gb of space (mimics the same size of the avg USB) 6th form get 4gb of space.

 

I clean the directories out once a term and search for .mp3, mp4, mkv, avi and flv generally
