A friend has asked for some advice. He wants to set up an online shop basically.

What is the best way to take online payments?

I haven't done this before so not sure!

Some sort of built in e-cart 123-reg provide? Paypal?

Thanks!

Thumbs up for SagePay. I believe the commission they take is pretty competitive as well. Edited by bobt

I know a number of people that use OpenCart as their free 'one stop shop', it has a clean interface, and various payment gateways including PayPal built in, so I'd say it is worth taking a look :)

OpenCart - Open Source Shopping Cart Solution

Haven't seen or used this before but if it's free its definitely worth checking, SagePay is competitive but will still chip into your wallet (especially when first starting up) - you get what you pay for though, they've got great support and is very easy to use. It's what I recommended when I was in web dev.

It has a Payment Gateway for Sagepay as well, and Amazon Payments etc, generally I think it's quite a good first e-commerce solution and also has multiple delivery options which my friends seem to like
