if anyone knows their way around Multicasting and Procurve switches then please help!!!!

I have set up all my Procurve switches with IGMP Snooping. I have disabled Querier on all but the core switch.

When I try to multicast it seems to work but the speeds are really slow.

When I look at "sh ip igmp" on my core switch I get 5 igmp active groups shown.

224.0.1.60

229.55.150.208

239.192.0.102

239.255.255.250

239.255.255.254

The WDS server is supposed to use 239.192.0.2 - 239.192.0.254 so the 3rd group is the one the multicast clients should use. No idea what the others are for.

when I look at the switch that some of my clients are connected to and type "sh ip pgmp" I get :

224.0.1.60

239.255.255.250

as the active groups? The WDs Multicast group isn't even shown (although the command also shows that the querier is my core switch).

Where am I going wrong? Why isnt the switch showing the correct group? As I say the Multicast does work but very very slowly.

What is the network utilisation on a client?

Are your clients 100mbps?

Whats the nic speed on the wds server?

clients are all 1000mbps

nic speed on WDS is set 1000mpbs. The WDS server is a VM on HyperV connected to Virtual switch. I did a registry change mentioned elsewhere on edugeek to force the connection to 1000mbps rather than 10G.

Was it this

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSMC\Protocol]

"TpMaxBandwidth"=dword:00000001

This is on the basis of 100mbps clients.

You could try it without the reg change. I know the custom ip range for multicast can be ignored definatly in SCCM. Not sure about vanilla WDS.

I think we have the querier on all our switches. Where we need to multicast igmp v3. Also IGMP snooping is needed.

Yes but I set it to 00000010 on the basis that the clients are connecting at 1000mbps.
