I don't think this has come as a surprise to many here about Nintendo, but I'll bet it's a huge sigh of relief at Sony HQ who have been struggling a bit over the past few years:

Sony may lose out a big proportion of upcoming profits by not agreeing to the EA subscription. Whilst many players are willing to shell out £55 separately for Battlefield, Fifa etc, the £5 a month for every game in their catalogue is too good to pass up. You also keep the games after the first year of the sub, so you could in theory download everything in their catalogue, then cancel after year one, and have 10-15 games for the price of 1, along with the 10% discount on all of the add ons and DLC etc.
