sdc Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Hi everyone Does anyone know where to purchase an energy-saving power strip that will turn off all sockets when one master socket detects a drop in current usage? I am looking for something to turn off an audio system when the amplifier is switched into standby (e.g. turn off the CD player and the rest of the components when the amp is switched into standby). The only ones I've found online are either controlled via a USB or SCART adaptor (I guess for either PC or TV use) or make use of extra buttons and/or infra-red detectors for the unit's existing remote control. However, this system has no remote control, so that's no good. Belkin seemed to have made exactly the device for this, but it's now end-of-life and I can't find anywhere online with stock, even eBay! Surely there must still be some sort of power strip with a current-sensing system that would achieve this? Perhaps I'm not using the right search terms, but after an hour or so of research online I'm still coming up with nothing suitable! Or perhaps there's a reason someone's aware of as to why these devices are no longer manufactured? Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.
nicholab Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Idea remote control plugs £20 for 3. Or route to a 13 amp socket on extension lead. Then on to the 4 way feed the kit.
pcstru Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Make your own. Arduino + Current Sensor + Solid State Relay + Multiway socket + 10 lines of code.
sdc Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 Thanks for the replies. Funnily enough, once I'd stopped looking, I stumbled across the very thing! If anyone's interested, it's here: https://energenie4u.co.uk/index.php/catalogue/product/ENER017 Thanks again!
