Stopping RSS Nags

When the kids log in (tiger) they get lots of RSS feeds asking for their user name and password to go through our proxy. No matter how many times they click the remember password tick box it never does - at least not between sessions. Safari does the same for our proxy but it does remember the passwords between sessions.

 

I suspect these RSS requests are coming from dashboard (?) as they appear to be for news feeds. Is there a way of turning them off for the kids from OS X server so they don't get nagged?

Update: It would appear that the feeds are coming from a safari live bookmark thing.

 

Anybody any idea how to turn this off per machine or globaly rather than per user IYSWIM?

I'm sure I saw this on the MacEnterprise a few weeks back ... I'll have a look throught the archives but I think it involved the removal of the library involved.

Could you not set up your proxy to allow those feeds through without authentication?

 

You don't mention what proxy you use so I can't give specifics.

Ric - never thought of that. The kids go through an ISA server so I guess we could do something like that. I would prefer to make it more future proof but that would be a good solution if nothing else turns up.

 

Tony - Thanks for the leg work. I look forward to seeing any response you may get. Shame about the lottery number though. That said, I'll settle for the next pools results ;-)

@dagza: With ISA you need to set up a content group with the addresses in. Then you just need an 'allow all' rule for 'all users' (IIRC)
