Bankesy Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Hello I hope this is an easy one to solve for those of you more experienced than myself: in Office 2010 users cannot see anything listed under Recent Documents (File>Recent) but there are entries listed in Recent Places within Office. I notice at the bottom of the File menu a tick box 'Quickly access this number of recent documents' but enabling this appears to make no difference as under File>Options>Advanced>Display there is a greyed out option for 'Show this number of recent documents'. I tried following this post MS Office 2010. Recent documents do not show | Windows Secrets Lounge but do not have the registry entry where it says it should be. Searching the registry does give me lots of other 'NoRecentDocs' entries. Could it be something to do with group policy? Any ideas welcome on this
themightymrp Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Any chance you have excluded the Recents folder from roaming profiles?
themightymrp Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Or you may be using mandatory profiles / users may not have file permissions etc. The links for recent files are stored in : %userprofile%\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\office\recent
sted Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 you can also disable recent documents via gpo though not sure if that would make amn odds to office but i suspect office gets its list from explorer
Bankesy Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Hello If I try to follow the path you put there I get an error message: 'Access to %user profile%\appdata has been disallowed' So if it is a permissions thing where do I go from here?
Bankesy Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 Resolved: within group policy I found the following: User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Start Menu and Taskbar>Do not keep history of recently opened documents This was set to enabled but disabling it has activated recent documents in Office applications. I did find this is not to be confused with the 'Clear history of recently opened documents' option which remains enabled 2
