Disabling mobile phone charging on workstations

Good Morning,

 

Sorry if this has already been posted before but I did a quick search and was unable to find anything. Does anyone know any way we can stop students from charging mobile phones, iPods, MP3 players using the USB slots on workstations without disabling the USB drive entirely?

 

I have found a way that allows you to disable the USB port but students use their memory sticks to transfer work from home to school and vice versa but they are also using this to their advance to charge their mobile mobiles.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

No - that's absolutely not possible. The "power" side of it is untoggleable. USB won't work without it, it's an entirely dumb part of the system.

Even if you disable the ability to use them as a storage device there would still be power unless you could disable them in the bios and on the other side even if you could disable the power that would then render them unusable for device storage as well they have to power the usb stick.

Why would you want to stop it anyway?

This is dead easy.

You get all the reasons you want to do this and present them to the head. He/she will then make the decision if this becomes school policy.

Once its school policy the teachers enforce it.

 

I agree. If a mobile is seen by a teacher at either my employing or governor schools it is removed... no matter how big the plea about charging it up is.

Thankyou for your responses. It is already part of the IT policy and our mobile phone policy but the students always find ways of hiding their phones whilst allowing it to charge. Shame there is no way of disabling this option. Thanks again
