Fibre Broadband - My line speed just jumped from 1.5Mbps to over 30Mbps

At last they've enabled my local cabinet for fibre so I'm finally able to get 21st Century internet speeds. In the scheme of things it's not that fast compared to what some others on here are getting but for me it's a quantum leap forward.

 

 

My previous broadband speed which, at barely over 1Mbps, was so poor my ISP had to tell me they couldn't actually sell it to me as broadband without me agreeing to accept it!

 

 

It's unbelievable the difference it makes

I am hoping they do it for my parents soon enough, as they are at max length on some extraordinarily bad part of BT Openreach where they are (their wired lazily off the industrial estate near them, which is connected via an exchange 5/6 miles away, when theres another exchange 1.5 miles down their road, also BT OpenReach stuck one DP underground on their street on the common land, which floods out about 5/6 times a year and takes weeks then to get decent service running again while the manhole drains.

 

Today at their house they had 0.33mbps download and 0.09mbps upload

Haha that takes me back to 2004 when I was getting those speeds and thought they were insane

That's a massive leap - must be great. I remember going from 56k to 512k - lightning fast!!

 

Just moved I to a new build and it seems to be 4.5 miles (or was it km) from the exchange. Fibre would why me approx 10mb down - barely faster than my old adsl2 connection.

 

Luckily (!) Virgin media cable up the entire house and I hey get all their services...... Apart from there's a blockage underground between house and cabinet on the new estate - so I've been waiting 6 weeks, have a date of July 9th now. Considering betting my mortgage I won't have internet then either....
