Downloading Attachments Problem

Hey guys,

 

I'm having problems downloading attachments from my gmail account. Its mainly Office documents. I click to download, I see it at the bottom downloading, I click to open which launches Word but then it just sits on the Word splash screen until Word crashes. Then when I try to open Word on its own I get 'do you want to run Word in Safe mode'

 

Files are downloading to a network drive but I can browse the network drive and open any files instantly.

 

I've reinstalled Word 2010 and 2013 and Chrome. Checked for updates on both but still get the same results.

 

Any ideas?
