Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008

Hi,

 

I have 2 servers that are both DC's however 1 of them is on Windows Server 2008 and 1 is on Windows Server 2003. I want to upgrade the 2003 server so that it is also 2008. Is it as simple as putting the 2008 disc in and upgrading? Is there anything else I need to do/know?

I am in a similar situation. I have one on 2003 and the other on 2008 R2. I am looking at moving the 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 and decommissioning the 2003 and making a virtual 2012 R2 DC.

Are you using 2008 or 2008 R2. 2008 R2 only comes in 64bit.

 

I would prefer to build the DC from scratch instead of upgrading. If you do this make sure you transfer all roles over to the 2008 DC.

Thanks for the reply @fiza I am happy staying with 2008 R2 for my other server currently but really want to upgrade my Windows Server 2003 Server to 2008. I just want to know how simple this is really!
