JackCPickup Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Howdo, I've noticed for the past 1-2 weeks that uptimes on our Hyper-V machines keep resetting with no errors about 'Unexpected Shutdown' on the servers. Host server is Windows Server 2008 R2. Clients are 2 x Windows Server 2008 R2, 1x Windows Server 2012. I can't find any errors in Event Viewer on all the machines pertaining to anything which would cause them to reboot. So, I'm wondering if anyone has had problems with virtual machines rebooting and what causes they have found, or if anyone has ever had Hyper-V uptimes reset even if the machines aren't rebooting. Thanks. Jack
themightymrp Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 As opposed to looking for errors, are there any event logs showing a reboot at all? Even information ones to say services have started etc? See if there are patterns to the times it is happening...
themightymrp Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 It could be that you have accidentally set a policy with regards Windows Updates which is rebooting your machines automatically??
JackCPickup Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Not likely, unfortunately I'm only there 3 hours a week so it'll have to wait 'til next week.
JackCPickup Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Late getting back to this. Plenty of Information events about WMI, Application Experience, and Virtual Disk services changing states and startup type throughout the day, but nothing different around the time they're restarting...so maybe Hyper-V could be recording uptime wrong?
themightymrp Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Nothing with regards Windows Updates either? Is it just the guest VM's restarting or the whole host server?
