Really looking forward to this! We live on the South Coast but have relatives in York so will be there over the weekend to soak up the atmosphere and see the race leaving (not from the Knavesmire unfortunately as we don't have tickets but going to find a good spot along the route somewhere).

Are you going, @DaveP?

The TDF experience is awesome. I was lucky enough to see it when there was a stage finish on top of an Andorran mountain a few years ago. We were 5 miles from the finish on an insanely steep mountain road and even after a 200 mile dash from Barcalona the lycra clad warriors were going at a fair clip when they passed us.

Seeing all the advertising vehicles going past beforehand was great fun.

I was gutted last year to arrive in a small French town a few hours after a TdF stage had started there. Would love to see it in France - it's a plan of mine and t'other half to follow it round with a camper van one year.

Whilst wandering around Zakopane in the Polish Tatra mountains a couple of years ago we stumbled up a stage finish for the Tour of Poland so spent a very pleasant afternoon being entertained by that.

Zak is lovely - not much English spoken there, but we got through with many laughs and pointing at things, we found a small bar a couple of miles out of town where a pint was about a pound :D

Got to say that seeing the Tour in real life was amazing. 12 hours travel to Yorkshire and back, three hours' wait by the side of the road and about 15 seconds for the peleton to whizz past en masse. But worth it!
