World Cup - Predictions

Please, please, please...no derailing about how you dislike football etc. I dislike football to an extent, however World Cups are a good time for cohesion among a nation.

 

Now, to business...I am placing wagers, and will be listing my predictions as I do. If you are doing the same, please place your predictions here, it will be good to see how close we actually get!

 

Group stages

Brazil v Croatia - Score: 3-1. Odds are 12/1, £2 down. Total Winnings - £24

Mexico v Cameroon - Score: 2-2. Odds are 18/1, £2 down. Total Winnings - £36

Spain v Netherlands - Score: 2-1. Odds are 8/1, £2 down. Total Winnings - £16

Chile v Australia - Score: 2-1. Odds are 15/2, £2 down. Total Winnings - £15

Columbia v Greece - Score: 1-1. Odds are 11/2, £2 down. Total Winnings - £11

 

3 bets for Overall Winners.

Overall Winner - Germany - 6/1. £5 down.

Overall Winner - Brazil - 3/1, £5 down.

Overall Winner - Argentina - 4/1, £5 down.

 

This is all I have so far. Only going to use this £10 to make the bets for group stages, and all subsequent bets come from winnings, if I make none then I stop.

You've been brave not to put a bet on Spain for overall winners. As much as I'd like Germany (or England of course, but let's face it, that's never gonna happen!) to win, unfortunately, the safer odds it seems are on Spain or Brazil, both of whom I'm not a great fan of.

 

I could be wrong though, because Brazil have lost that invincibility aura about them over the last few World Cups and Spain/Barcelona's Tiki Taka rubbish has been closed out by the stronger European sides. Germany are a dark horse, as are Argentina, more so because the tournament is in South America where European teams don't tend to fair too well.

Germany have 1 advantage over all other European teams, they built their own resort to stay in and it is an hour away from each stadium they play the group stages in (and subsequent knock outs up to semi finals) so they have a max of 1 hour on the coach and no fatigue. All other teams are having to fly in country or take coaches to get to the stadiums etc, which wont help them.

As for Spain, recent form suggests they wont retain their title. Drawn against Chile, Lost to South Africa (fielding a full strength squad), just barely beating Italy.
