Can't see page to upload firmware on Procurve switch GUI

See image below - where the link should be is missing.. haven't got this on any other switch as the link is there, but I can't even see is on the GUI for this particular switch. Is there somewhere else where the link can be enabled (which would be bizarre if there were, but I am running out of ideas)?!

A small case of DeJaVu, It looks you are in the same situation I was in a few weeks ago. I could not find the upload option, so I looked at alternate methods, I had to upgrade it via the command line interface, either telnet, ssh or console. The process that I followed is:

 

1. Download and install SolarWinds TFTP server (FREE TFTP Server & SFTP/SCP Server) onto a workstation (Same subnet / VLan as the switch management)

2. Download PUTTY and put it on a workstation (Same or different as the TFTP Server, same subnet/vlan)

3. Copy the *.swi file to c:\TFTP Root on the workstation (Or the locaiton specified in the TFTP server install)

4. login to the switch using putty (TELNET, SSH or Console)

5. type the following command:

copy TFTP flash *IP ADDRESS* *FIRMWARE* Primary

 

*IP ADDRESS* = the TFTP Server's IP Address

*FIRMWARE* = firmware update file

E.G. copy TFTP flash 10.0.0.253 K_12_113.swi Primary

 

6. Type 'Y' to confirm the copy

 

The firmware will then upload to the switch and check the firmware

 

7. when this has completed type 'reload' into the switch.

8. You will need to type 'Y' to restart the switch. You may also be asked to save the configuration of the switch, I will leave this to your judgement to choose your option here.

 

Once the switch restarts you should be all updated.

There isn't one on the older procurves, do as above from the cli, or via the menu on cli.

 

I prefer to tftpd32 rather than death by solarwinds spam.

It may well be that I will have to do this, despite the switch location being very awkward and nowhere near ideal for even connecting to any kind of computer/laptop device, but I can at least access it via the network.

This isn't an older procurve though.. it's a 2810 model. We have other identical 2810 models, both 24 and 48 ports, and also 2510, 2610 and 2910 and have this button on all of them. I am just baffled why this switch doesn't have it in the interface, which is otherwise identical to the rest we have.

I don't ever remember there being update via the gui with the models that had the java interface, it may have been added after I stopped working with those models, I know the newer interface is just html5 and has it (only used the 3800s recently).

 

It it still on a release from pre 2011? (last time I upgraded a 2810).

Just read the management and configuration guide, there is no update option in any of the web gui screenshots.

The 2810 is quite an old model (2007), I think it was one of the first "10" models (the 2800s also having most of the same features).

Did the update via TFTP and voila once the new firmware was on it had the upload/download button again, so I guess it must have been on such an early firmware release that the feature simply hadn't been made available then. All good now though!
