Slow after boot!

Hi,

I've got a Lenovo z585 laptop with an A10 Cpu/APU (I believe its a quad 2.3ghz) & 8GB ram. Windows 8 takes ages to load after having logged on. I've also dual booted Windows 7 on it and it seems to be slow getting going.

Once its started its fine!

Am I right in thinking that my system is bottlenecked with a 5400RPM HDD? Or is it the fact its an AMD?! I've worked on lower spec machines at work and they are much much quicker to get going after boot?!

 

I was thinking of getting an SSD with it but space would be a problem. I might put the HDD into the optical bay and put an SSD on the main SATA?

 

Ideas please?!

Check what your computer runs at startup if there a load of programs starting up after you login that could cause your computer to be slow.

Well I've checked and pretty much filtered out anything that would take an age to load already.

Plus it's the same on a fresh install of Windows 7 before programs but after drivers.

Does your anti-virus software look for updates as soon as you login?

 

That was all I could think of sorry.

Process Monitor might be worth running? Add the 'Category is Write' filter, leave it running for a while and then go to 'Process Activity Summary' under the Tools menu to find out the name of the process that is hammering the HDD.

Have you tried to disable the wifi adapter and log in? Sometimes I notice wifi takes a long time to connect it sits there with the little circle spinning round. Then once it's connected seems to run better.
