Theldron Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hi all, I am currently building a new image for the school and I am checking with staff what software they want on there. Software that I can't see them still using on the current image, they claim gets used all the time, so I would like to find a piece of software (free if poss or trial) that I can run over a period of time and show me the amount of use a piece of software gets. Does anyone know of any such software? Many thanks
Joanne Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Can you just go on add remove programs in control panel? Usually tells you how frequently (or not) a program is launched.... not very specific, but would give you a rough estimate?
Joanne Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I've just realised that Windows 7 totally doesn't do that... yikes!
m1k3r Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Might be a bit complicated and time consuming, but could you create a 'shortcut' which is actually a batch file which first logs to a file and then launches the appropriate exe? Shouldn't effect the software and will let you know what is actually being run - when, where and by whom. We have the exact same problem.
LosOjos Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I've used this in the past (at least I think it was this, it looks familiar but it was quite some time back): https://www.rescuetime.com/ Be very careful doing this though, in fact don't do it until you've spoken to SLT. You are tracking usage and some might have a problem with that, they may even go far as to say you're spying on them... could be a nightmare for the school if unions get involved! Don't do this without SLT's backing!
Theldron Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 This wont be staff usage, it will be student use.
