enjay Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I've got one PC here which refuses to recognise our EasySense Q boxes. The USB ports are fine, other USB devices work okay on that PC and the EasySense works on other PCs - it is something specific in the combination with that computer to causes it to come up "unknown device". Can anyone suggest what to look at in order to get this working?
Guest Guest Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Sorry if this is patronising but; Has that pc got the drivers? Are other drivers trying to take control? Or is the driver not signed and as such isnt being picked up? Ive seen this before; goto DeviceManager, update driver - "Show all drivers, including incompatible ones" and select the correct one. Did you initially plug the device in *before* installing the drivers? Some things dont like it this way round. Does the device draw its power from the USB? IF so is it getting enough juice? Try putting a powered hub inline.
enjay Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 The drivers are digitally signed, and work just fine on our other PCs with the same box. I was connecting it and then letting it ask for the drivers, however I've not had issues using that method with this device before now. It could be a power question, I suppose, although surely that would affect all computers and not just this one?
enjay Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 Does the device draw its power from the USB? IF so is it getting enough juice? Try putting a powered hub inline. I think you might be onto something there - I just plugged it in through a powered hub and it worked fine. Curiously, it works fine without the hub now that its been set up...
TechSupp Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Hi Got a very similar problem, however the drive was recognised by the server (its an extra usb hard drive for the server to back up on to, Freecom 500Gb) when it was first installed. It is also recognised by any other PC that it is plugged in to. Now when it is plugged in to the server it says that it is recognised and ready to use (think thats the freecom part as thats the first bit recognised when its plugged in elsewhere) then it reporst that it is not recognised and not working. We started having problems with backing up on to it at the start with write delayed errors. Then the drive not being available to browse. Now it just isnt be recognised at all on the server. Now do you think its a power problem as above or a USB problem on the server. The server is a Fujitsu-Siemens Econel 50 if that helps.
TechSupp Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Just got a powered Hub and plugged it in and now that doesn't get recognised (perfectly OK in another PC), even my memory stick doesn't get recognised now!! But... the UPS device when I moved it to one of the free ports that doesn't recognised my new drive or hub it works!!! Any ideas if its something in Windows (server 2003) or maybe hardware in the server? Need to get this sorted very soon.
accura2000 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I had a similar problem a fews years back, i reinstall the motherboard drivers and it all seemed to fall into place after that. This may not be the same for guys buts it must be worth a shot.
Dos_Box Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I had this problem only yesterday. I put it down to the fine driver management that XP employes. These along with Intel cameras and microscopes give me the most problems.
mac_shinobi Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Somewhere that I go when I have usb issues : http://www.usbman.com/Troubleshooter%20General.htm
TechSupp Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 My problem after a few calls to Fujitsu was that the controller on the motherboard had failed in some way as it accepted USB1.1 devices but not any USB2 devices. Changed motherboard (fortunately under warranty) and all seems OK. Funny that happening at work as when I got home one of the external hard drives connected to my laptop had dropped off i.e. not recognised via a powered hub anymore and the other drive had failed. Eventually got the laptop to recognise it by plugging it direct to the ports on the laptop. As a possible solution I have read that discharging all power from the PC (not just turning it off) will solve some problems like this. Worked for a PC with a problem network connection today, so worth remembering as a possible quick fix.
