bitznpcz Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Hi, Has anyone else signed up for the Custom Support Programme to get XP updates for schools. (Government signs £5.5m Microsoft deal to extend Windows XP support). I have signed up and downloaded the May 2014 updates and successfully added to WSUS on servers running Server 2003 and 2008. I cannot however get this to work on Server 2012. I have tried on 3 different servers running Server 2012 Standard and get the error: "No instance of WSUS found on this server. WSUSImportTool can only be run locally on a WSUS server". In each case, WSUS is installed and working correctly. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? To get support from Microsoft I would need a Premier Contract (costing thousands). Thanks, Kevin
siuko Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Have you any details as to exactly where you signed up for this and where you downloaded the updates from please?
siuko Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I think I may have found it > Custom Support | Crown Commercial Service
fiza Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) I too would be interested. I mentioned this in another thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/134791-government-pays-ms-keep-xp-going-another-year-3.html#post1164537 I thought it was from here. https://connect.microsoft.com/ but haven't had any luck. Trojan Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Isn't this just typical - millions of pounds in tax payer money spent without actually telling the people it's intended for how to gain access to it. 1

bitznpcz Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 It looks like i've got further than most of you... Here is the information, I received: "Yes an agreement has been signed, more detail can be found on our website Special agreements | Crown Commercial Service If you are intending on accessing the updates on an aggregated basis you may be liable for a Premier Support contract - £12.5k minimum. However, individual organisations with less than 250 XP devices can access the updates for free. You can register on the this link here. Alternatively you could investigate use of your local council’s Premier Support agreement but all support calls you raise (if any) will have to be channelled through them." The link takes you to: https://connect.microsoft.com/CSA/InvitationUse.aspx?ProgramID=8454&InvitationID=8454-JBDT-V3JW It seems to work OK, apart from on Server 2012... 1
bitznpcz Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 How long after emailing them did it take to get set up? Just a couple of days. I signed up on April 9th! Downloaded updates last Wednesday following Patch Tuesday.
FN-GM Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 What did you do to WSUS to get the updates? Just wondering how they identify who is allowed these updates.
fiza Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 What did you do to WSUS to get the updates? Just wondering how they identify who is allowed these updates. Im guessing it would be a cab file that you import?
bitznpcz Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Within the connect.Microsoft.com site there is the wsusimporttool.exe and each patch Tuesday a scan cab file and updates. As this is a public forum, I cannot list the updates.
bitznpcz Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 As it's Patch Tuesday today, I thought I'd resurrect this thread. Has anyone been successful in applying XP Updates with WSUS on Server 2012? I have tried numerous servers and just get the message that WSUS is not installed. I am guessing there should be another import tool, but I cannot find out who to contact in MS without signing up for a premier support contract. The tool works great in Server 2003/2008.
Cache Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'd try what it says on this page and use the builtin utility WsusUtil.exe with the csaimport switch: Windows Server 2012 | Kamm and Re 1

Patches for May and June successfully added to WSUS.
