smudge1977 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Hi All Sorry if this has been posted, I am in a role that requires me to upgrade sims and just wondering if there is a step by step guide i could follow, With regards to backing up SQL etc. I understand all schools are different but in the past i have not needed to touch the sims server as it was managed by the provider direct. I have searched through post but couldnt see anything that stood out. Thanks for reading.
vikpaw Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Who is now your support provider? They should release to you the upgrade, and advise on how you are to do it. There are now 2 methods, and which you use might depend on the support team you have or just the old way it was setup. The old method of SOLUS 2, requires running the upgrade routine on the server and it will download and update the server and relevant folders. Next each client will upgrade itself, given sufficient permissions are held by the user. SOLUS 3 is supposed to make your life easier, and will be a setup that you can control and push updates out to the clients after the server is done. Backups, which are essentially, are built into the upgrade routine, but you should also make your own using system manager or directly within the SQL server. There are quite a lot of docs on http://support.capitaes.co.uk which you should be a member of.
