I've had a request, and I'm wondering if this is possible.

They would like to show a "ladder" of all possible results for a subject, and highlight the current result and the target result on it.

Then they'd like to do the same again for the next term, something like this:

10 10

9 9

8 8

7 [7]

[6]{6}

{5}5

4 4

3 3

2 2

1 1

Where {} and [] are highlighted cells. Ideally a colour to show above, on and below target as well.

Has anyone done anything like this? can it be done using SIMS out of the box, or do I have to delve into the murky world of VBA?

You can do it with SIMS.net straight out of the box.

You need to enter the dark world of Sims.net Assessment Manager.

Very difficult to understand initially, check the 'Help'. When you get stuck, post back.

But I've been using Assessment Manager for about 7 years!

Maybe I can't see it. I've found a solution, but one that requires, for the requested implementation, literally 25*18 Nested If Then Else aspects to show one of the highlights. Which will take forever to generate.

Actually, VBA isn't an option. We want to keep everything in SIMS.

OK I see.

We did something like this for end of term reports. Maybe I'm not understanding your post but..

Using assessment manager you can place grade sets and aspect fields, as well as calculations based on them, into a Word or Excel template and colour fields in the output... i.e.your highlighting.

e.g. base your 'ladder' on your defined grade sets then calculate point progress against previously recorded result i.e. target grade then highlight the output accordingly

Am I understanding what you're trying to do correctly ?

I think what @DeeGee wants is to see the full ladder in the ind.rep, not just which grades (rungs) of the ladder they are on. Right?

I have heard of this done before, but not tried it successfully. This might not be the easiest way, but if you put your ladder in a table, then apply conditional if then else formulae in word to highlight the cell if the contents match another cell somewhere else where you pull in that subjects grade. You could then make that subject grade tiny or change the font and borders to white to essentially hide it.

Though it might be easier to have a static ladder somewhere and then below just show the actual grade and target. Colour coding can be done with a couple of simple formula in AM. The only downside is it's an extra line in the report as well as a blank ladder, plus they won't line up as it were, but for ease, that would be much simpler.

I think that's the solution. The ladder is actually a grid, showing progress from one assessment to another. The highlighting of the grades showing, ideally, an upward trend.

I think we're just going to have to publish the grid with the targets, which doesn't vary by student, and put the results underneath.
