Gmail and pop - do you allow it?

We're using google apps/gmail here and I've got the pop/imap facility disabled - i.e you have to login with a browser.

 

My reason for this is to prevent users (mainly staff) setting email up on their phone, and having emails on their phone which could be of a sensitive or confidential nature. If they lose their phone, emails downloaded via pop will remain on the phone and we can't control this.

 

What does anyone else do? I would like to allow Outlook to connect to gmail for our domain, but the option is pop3/imap on or off, you can't be more specific that that.

Doing that won't stop it on the phones I don't think. Had it disabled when we used in in my old school and phone apps still work.

I have to admit, I haven't actually tested that out yet - althought it has removed the pop/forwarding options from gmail so maybe thats all it does!

GASMO (!) doesn't appear to work with GAPPS for us, as we use it through the realsmart vle. Not sure whether its the way I've set it up or it just doesn't like the third party element!
